Choosing a Long-term Care Facility

Choosing the right home can be a difficult task and is an emotional and stressful time for both applicants and their families.  At Nakile, our caring professionals understand this and we are here to address all of your questions and concerns.  Ideally, families should become familiar with various nursing care options within their community prior to proceeding with an admission.

A reputable long-term care facility has nothing to fear from opening its doors to the public.  When deciding on the right nursing home, visit when routine activities can be observed and keep in mind the following items:

Outside

•    Are the building and grounds neat and well-maintained?
•    Are there designated outdoor areas for people to enjoy?

Inside

•    Are the rooms bright?  Well kept? Personalized?
•    Do the rooms have the option for telephone and cable hook –up?
•    Is there a nurse call or emergency response system?
•    Are persons living in the home clean, properly dressed, interacting freely and treated with respect?
•    Are laundry and housekeeping services provided?

Staff

•    Are persons working in the home friendly? Professional?
•    Are nurses on duty 24/7?
•    What arrangements are made for speech, massage, occupational and physical therapy?
•    How many persons serve in each department?

Lifestyle

•    Layout – Are the lounges, dining areas comfortable and attractive?
•    Are individuality and independence promoted?
•    Are there scheduled special events, and regular activities?
