Medical Services Persons who qualify for admissions to a Nursing Home in Nova Scotia must have a stable medical status. Persons admitted to Nakile must have an attending Physician. In the event that a family physician does not cover the medical care of a person admitted to Nakile, a Nurse Practitioner, working under a collaborative agreement with a medical doctor, may assume the responsibility for medical coverage.
Nursing Home Medical guidelines suggest that a physician visit
a nursing home on the average of four times a year. In the event that medical needs
arise between visits the RN on duty will inform the physician who will decide if
medical attention can wait for the next scheduled visit. If the nature of the
illness is urgent the resident can be transferred to the Emergency Department at
the Western Regional Health Centre. Family members can accompany and transfer a resident to the doctor's office
or other outside appointments. |
